What is it?
This page allows you to select the type of layer you would like to add to the map. There are between six and eight options, depending on if you are a member of a project and have contributed data to the website. The last two, background, and overlay, are Web Map Service (WMS) layers, which means that these layers are provided by a different website. Therefore, they may sometimes take longer than layers available from our website.
Click in the circle (radial button) next to the type of layer you would like to add:
Organism: all locations for an organism contributed to the website. This will take you to a page to search for a specific organism.
Area: add a single, non-survey data area that is found in the website database, including something like a particular county or National Park. There could be survey data associated with the specific area, like a species list for a particular county, but this does not include adding a particular survey plot.
Data Additions (Login Requirement: Contributor project role): all survey data from a single data sharing time (a single file that was uploaded and added to the website database). This is a good way to view data you have just uploaded.
Your Data (Login Requirement: Contributor project role): all data you have ever uploaded and added to the website database. This includes data across projects that you have uploaded.
Project: add all the survey data associated with a project, which is a group of data collected by the same people or organization.
Boundaries: choose the type of layer you would like to upload. This includes political boundaries like counties and national parks along with natural features like streams and lakes and human features like highways and cities.
Background (WMS): by default, a topographic background layer provided by TerraServer is already added, but you can change what background layer you have.
Layers from others (WMS): transparent layers made available from other websites (e.g., endangered species critical habitat, fire, etc.).
Click the submit button.
You will be taken to a new page to select the layer you want to add from the list of layers for the layer type you selected. Click the link of the layer type above for help on selecting the layer for the specific type.
